DESCRIP- TION | This layout is a railfan’s delight that depicts the Canadian Pacific Railway as it courses through the mountains of British Columbia and Alberta. Sections of rugged mountain scenery rise from waist level to touch the sky and provide a majestic backdrop for trains as they travel through tunnels, over bridges, and along roadbeds cut into the side of ancient mountains. Two urban areas counterpoint the mountain scenery and offer industrial switching. The scenery dwarfs the trains, just as the mountains of British Columbia and Alberta dwarf the prototype. A large, detailed engine maintenance facility and a station built into the extensive workshop are also gems for visitors to examine. The owner is through and through a craftsman. If he cannot find a part he needs, he builds it. His meticulous attention to his models is readily apparent to even the most casual visitor. His approach to the layout has been primarily as an observer and a railfan. As such, he originally built the layout in a different house and then expanded it by at least five-fold in his current house. He also retrofitted his trains with sound and LED lighting. |
